Rock Elm
This is the largest of the three rock elms in Tower Grove Park and is a spectacular specimen. Measuring just over 100 feet tall, this northern Missouri native exhibits a tight, skyward architecture that has overcome the toughest weather events that aren’t uncommon in this region. Similarly to the better known American elm, the rock elm is susceptible to the devastating vascular fungal pathogen, Dutch elm disease. This tree is injected every three years as a proactive measure to prevent the onset of the disease that would ensure certain death otherwise.
